England win opening game thanks to Loye Blitz

England Innings
England's first game of the inaugural 20-20 World Cup against Zimbabwe was a good one as they successfully won Zimbabwe by 16 runs.

Captain Paul Collingwood won the toss and elected to bat first on a dry pitch. The English opening pair of Mal Loye and Darren Maddy strode out to the middle. They got off to a superb start, taking 36 off the first 3 Overs. But some tight bowling in the middle overs by skipper Prosper Utseya just slowed the rampage on as England reached 105/0 in the 15th Over. Loye held out to fine-leg attempting a shovel shot :p . After he had gone, Maddy reached his half-century and continued to tick the score along. Yet again, tight bowling in the later overs had saved Zimbabwe from chasing over 150+

Zimbabwe Innings
With the win of Australia under their belts, the Zimbabwean openers Vusi Sibanda and Hamilton Mazakadza strode out to the middle knowing this would not be easy. Sibanda took on Broad and Flintoff, but at the other end some extravagant bowling (helped by the conditions) by James Anderson added increasing pressure for Mazakadza. Eventually the pressure got to him as he went for a wild heave and was cleaned up by a Bopara slower delivery. Sibanda tried to up the scoring rate but he also fell by a Maddy yorker. After he went, it was all just a bit to much. Brendon Taylor's quickfire 22 off 7 balls was not enough as some classy English bowling did the Zimbabweans.

So, here is the Match Summary

The Man Of The Match Award went to Mal Loye for his superb 72 off 47 balls including 11 fours and 3 sixes.

Well that is it for today, do join us again for the India-Scotland game. From all of us it's Goodbye!

England are very impressive here. An expected win, and a great performance.Nice story mate.

Well done there by Bangladesh to upset the Windies...

Zimbabwe on the other hand couldnt pull off an upset but still looking good...Englands doing well

Keep it up guys

Taylor's efforts in vain.. Zimbabwe almost had the result in their favour.. Very very unfortunate.. Great game though. :)

Kevin Pietersen today arrived at the press conference with his two fingers strapped together with the messege "I will bat on," when asked was he
heading home. Peter Moores has today agreed that KP will be allowed into the team with pain killing injections, he said,

KP is a brilliant player, he thinks he wasnt made for T20 but we all know differnt, he can win us matches and can make 100's from 30 balls which is what this competition is about. He will carry on as normal and with the pain killing injections he should have 90% normalness in his hand, its just fielding which will be the problem, but he'll have strapping on during fielding and wont be inside the circle much until the swelling has gone.

When KP was asked about his proformance vs. Zimbabwe and his hope for the tourniment, he had this to say,
Well, against Zimbabwe i didnt have much to do but i gave out a decent bit of talk, whether they understood it remains to be seen, but my contribution wasnt needed due to some fantastic batting by the boys at the top of the order. Mal has come in and has the expectations of us boys knowing our stuff, but its obvious that hes a much more talanted and experience T20 player than a good 5 or 6 of our batsmen so his leadership at the top is valued. The fingers sore, but obviously we have to sacrifice pain in order to win, and thats what ill be hoping to do for England.

Paul (Collingwood) has a lot of expectations which he, and ourselves, will hope to achieve and finally but those nightmares to bed, we are told we cant play T20 or ODI's, but we can, and we'll prove it.

Well both coach and KP sound confident ahead of Australia, join us soon for more action from South Africa.

Letting a player play with a broken finger England are taking chances KP's finger could get worst.
Nice story

He should sit out. It could go bad. Hope he gets better. Nice twist.

To be honest, thats what everyone should expect from Supermal! He really is fantastic!

Good presentation!

Good luck. First game for the Indians. They will have to fire. Come on India!

Letting KP play with a broken finger is stupid. Also I hope that Scotland beat India. That would be fantastic :)

Sorry for the delay guys. I have an error whilst the game starts. Will try and diagnose the problem as soon as possible.
