England win opening game thanks to Loye Blitz
England Innings
England's first game of the inaugural 20-20 World Cup against Zimbabwe was a good one as they successfully won Zimbabwe by 16 runs.
Captain Paul Collingwood won the toss and elected to bat first on a dry pitch. The English opening pair of Mal Loye and Darren Maddy strode out to the middle. They got off to a superb start, taking 36 off the first 3 Overs. But some tight bowling in the middle overs by skipper Prosper Utseya just slowed the rampage on as England reached 105/0 in the 15th Over. Loye held out to fine-leg attempting a shovel shot . After he had gone, Maddy reached his half-century and continued to tick the score along. Yet again, tight bowling in the later overs had saved Zimbabwe from chasing over 150+
Zimbabwe Innings
With the win of Australia under their belts, the Zimbabwean openers Vusi Sibanda and Hamilton Mazakadza strode out to the middle knowing this would not be easy. Sibanda took on Broad and Flintoff, but at the other end some extravagant bowling (helped by the conditions) by James Anderson added increasing pressure for Mazakadza. Eventually the pressure got to him as he went for a wild heave and was cleaned up by a Bopara slower delivery. Sibanda tried to up the scoring rate but he also fell by a Maddy yorker. After he went, it was all just a bit to much. Brendon Taylor's quickfire 22 off 7 balls was not enough as some classy English bowling did the Zimbabweans.
So, here is the Match Summary
The Man Of The Match Award went to Mal Loye for his superb 72 off 47 balls including 11 fours and 3 sixes.
