Hopefully Scotland can cause an upset. Nice win for England though, but a shame about KP breaking his finger. He should sit out

Jayasuriya all-round performance guides Sri Lanka To Victory

Kenya Innings
The pressure was on both teams in this day game at Durban. Kenya had to win this game to keep their hopes alive and Sri Lanka needed to get off to a good start.

Openers Maurice Ouma and David Obuya strode out to the middle as Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga shared the new ball. Vaas and Malinga were getting constant movement on and off the pitch. Ouma and Obuya had put on 30 in the first 8 overs due to some outstanding bowling. As Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene brought on Dilshan, they lashed out on him but Obuya went for one to many as he was outdone by Sanath Jayasuirya. Shah and Mishra tried to up the tempo but Kenya got to 110/2 in the 20 Overs. Obviously this was not enough.

Sri Lanka Innings
The Sri Lankan openers Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya had no pressure on them knowing they need less than 6 rpo. Tharanga and Jayasuriya took to the Kenyan bowlers from the start till the end. Anything short was put away for a boundary as the Sri Lankans took no prisoners. They reached the target without the fall of a wicket as the Sri Lankans had dumped Kenya out of the inaugural T20 World Cup.

South Africa Crash Out As Defeat To Bangla Proves Costly

The hosts South Africa once again choked at home in a major ICC Event as their defeat to Bangladesh knocked them out of the tournament.

Day 5 of the ICC World Twenty20 started off with the New Zealand vs Sri Lanka encounter at The Wanderers, Johannesburg. Both teams were already through into the Super Eights but this game was for bragging rights. Sri Lankan Skipper Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and decided to bat first on a wet pitch due to all the rain. Things started off badly for the Sri Lankans as uneven bounce restricted them to 20/0 from the first 5 overs. However Sanath Jayasuriya took charge and hit out on his way to 38 before being cleaned up by Craig McMillan. Kumar Sangakkara arrived at the crease and smashed a quickfire 33 as Sri Lanka reached a mear 118/1 in their 20 Overs.

In reply, the same happened with the New Zealand batters as they reached 28/0 in the first 5 overs. In the 10th over, Jayawardene brought on Jayasuriya and Dilshan for one over each. That was the turning point of the game as those two vital overs went for 29. That eased the pressure on Vincent and McCullum who both went on to get half-centuries and saw New Zealand through with near 3 overs to spare.

The second game of Day 5 was a must win for both teams especially South Africa as if they were to lose here today, they would be knocked out of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup. Skipper Graeme Smith won the toss and elected to bowl first ona dusty track favouring the bowlers. Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful opened the batting and took on the paceman with Ashraful smashing yet another half-century. Tamim And Ashraful made 81 runs for the first wicket as the paceman were going all over the park. Ashraful and Tamim eventually held out in the deep as that brought Aftab Ahmed to the crease. He smashed 3 sixes in a blistering 33 Not Out which brought Bangladesh to a challenging total of 150/3.

Chasing 151 for the victory and for them to stay in the tournament, the South African batsmen got to work and in the 6 powerplay overs made 50/1 with AB De Villiers falling. Some superb wicket-to-wicket bowling from Syed Rasel increased the required rate to 9.00 as Proteas Skipper Graeme Smith departed for 38. Justin Kemp and JP Duminy lashed out scoring a 50-run partnership in 23 balls but that was not enough as South Africa lost by a mear 5 runs as they were sent packing in the group stages. They had choked where it mattered most.

So with the group stages done and dusted, the next phase of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup is the Super Eights. The tables for the Super Eights are as follows:

Group E:
Bangladesh
Pakistan
Sri Lanka
Zimbabwe

Group F:
England
New Zealand
Scotland
West Indies

The Fixtures for the Super Eights are as follows:
Sri Lanka vs Pakistan
England Vs West Indies
Bangladesh Vs Zimbabwe
Scotland Vs New Zealand
Sri Lanka Vs Zimbabwe
England Vs Scotland
West Indies Vs New Zealand
Bangladesh Vs Sri Lanka
Zimbabwe Vs Pakistan
England Vs New Zealand
West Indies Vs Scotland
Bangladesh Vs Pakistan

The top two teams from each group will advance through to the Semi-finals.
