South Africa in Australia Dec 2008-Jan 2009

If I was a South African, I would skip school to watch this match. Beating Australia in Australia doesn't happen to often. And then to win a whole series is even more historical.

Such a short memory. I would ask about a bloke recently retired who was an ordinary looking bowler. Fast medium at best, didn't do a lot with the ball in the air, bowled outside off all day and became a mainstay of the Australian bowling. A guy names McGrath.

There is a guy that seems to disagree with your assessment of Johnson and has done for the last couple of seasons and he is the one who decides who bowls and when. A chap named Pointing.

Err I was not referring to physical appearance. McGrath looked anything but ordinary. Anyone who can seam it around, on a perfect length and get some bounce will always be a class above the rest.

Johnson on the other hand bowls around 146Kph, has no real swing or seam in his armoury and consistently bowls rank bad balls (full tosses, half-volleys and the like). Talk about a pie-chucker.

Silly billy, what are you on about.
I see our running between the wickets hasn't been sorted either, another chance just then if it was a direct hit.

LOl ............ here the broadcaster is showing Harris not Tait :p not my fault

Australia T20 wonders. Our batsmen have lost the temperament even to play a 50 over game. And yet another guy playing for his place choose not to show the selectors why he should be there.

Botha's certainly not a chucker, but even if he was, chucking can only help a spinner with the faster-ball. It does nothing for spin and flight.

How about the top spinner which he threw down to get extra bounce. He doesn't spin it much or flight it much. I wonder why? There's more to spin bowling then that. It's against the rules of the game, no matter what it helps. He's been banned before and this looks as bad as it used to.

Watch Duminy bowl. Beautiful off spin action. He could be a real good all-rounder if he works on it.

The Australian batting line up has a very fragile look to it, even before it showed how brittle it is. We have 2 junior openers, one of whom has zip experience at 1st class level let alone International, the 2 most experienced batsman are 3 and 4 then we are into what appears to be either the tail or a very badly ordered line up. D Hussey seems to find this a step too far, Haddin is batting too high for a guy who is under pressure to prove he can keep, Hopes either should be batting a little further down if he is playing as an all rounder. White appears to be playing as a specialist batsman but comes in at 7. If he isn't going to bowl there are better options, he is mediocre in the field and only occasionally comes of as a batsman.

The selectors appear to be picking names out of their ..... without any planning. Certainly Waner may have the goods, but one swallow doesn't a summer make, and he needs experience and balance to help him. Perhaps the side would look a bit better with someone like Kattich opening with him, an older head to keep him on even keel, this would allow Marsh to move to 4 and Hussey can come in a 5 or 6. he earned a reputation as one of the great finishers but we have him up the order. I'd like to see a better spin option then either Hauritz or White who are both straight turners. Haddin, if he is to be retained and Hopes can come in next. The spin option bats either at 5 or 8. WHo plays as the spinner is a little problematical.

This game could be a new low in Australian cricket for some time. Lost test series at home and lost ODI series at home.

I know his action looks unorthodox, but that's because up until a few years ago he was a seamer (with a hyperflexed elbow). He then bowled cutters and finally switched to spin.

The topspinner will get extra bounce whether you chuck it or not, but I have no doubt that he's legal.

Another two wickets taken and South Africa should clean up the tail now. Only two wickets left. Australia are at 189-8 and still hasn't taken the batting powerplay. :laugh

Now finally Ponting took the batting powerplay.

The batting powerplay should have been taken much earlier when Hussey was batting with White. Damn not even Johny boy is there :( otherwise we could have use this powerplay quite well.
