South Africa in Australia Dec 2008-Jan 2009

When Gibbs is in this form not many bowlers would be able to stop him. Hilfy got some nice swing but Gibbs really took to him forcing him away from the swinging length.

Tait looks good for making the batsmen jump but sadly that isn't going to take you wickets.

Australia needs to get some wickets to win. SA will win if they bat like this.

There is the dangerous Gibbs but he has done some serious damage. Nice comeback by Hilfy after the punishment he got. Started bowling on a better length and using the slower ball well.

Yep unlike our guys he will convert. Tough chance but we have to take them with this total and it would have put SA under some pressure although the guy at the other end is releasing it....

Not if we bowl Johnson...
Nice start by Hopes really impressing me this game, first with the bat now gets a big wicket.

How many guys agree with me that the selectors have fudged up this team? Here are the tricks we missed (in hindsight).

- Not picking Hodge in the midst of such an injury and retirement crisis. The guy is a specialist batsmen, a rare breed in the Australian team at the moment and has experience to boot and is in great form.

- Playing White as a specialist batsman and Hopes as a specialist bowler (despite his fighting 40 today). If we needed to persist with Hopes, he should be at the top of the order.

- Mike Hussey at four. The guy is as good as a finisher as we have, not someone to come in and stodge around. His brother should be at this position scything quick 50s or 100s and playing the Symonds' in his absence.

First of all throw this kit into the bin

2007 (England)
2008 (India)
2009 (South Africa)

Enough is Enough

Johnson looked much better around the wicket, a lot more economical. Apart from our batters we really are missing a decent spinner, either that or we are playing spin really poorly.

Nice 50 by Amla and De Villers these two are doing what we should have done.

doesnt matter if we had mcrath warne an lee playing this total was never going to be enough on such a great batting wicket.

Once again our batsmen have completely failed us

I dont mind the idea someone mentioned earlier
Katich an Warner opening
Ponting
Then Marsh
M hussey
Dhussey etc

The reason Hussey got moved up is because he was in such unstoppable form he was being wasted coming in so far down the order with sometimes only 10 overs to go
So he was moved up so instead of just a quick 30 or so he had the chance to get some good hundreds.

At the moment we have to many inexperienced players all batting together throw in katich drop hussey down a spot an then it looks alot better
exp player
inexp player
exp
in
exp
in
in etc

Also ponting should try diff tactics
Our batsmen have been failing at setting targets so maybe he should make them set the target an see if we look better chasing

That could work but I don't think our selectors will bring anyone in for 1 match as they have named the ODI squad for this series already. No idea what they plan on doing for the NZ one seeing it is only 2 days after this series finishes.

I think the selectors will panic after this loss, and pick Dan Cullen as opening batsman to replace Warner.
