South Africa in England

Well, I must say, 15 minutes before the start of play, and I am nervous.

Botham has just been on and said there is a bit of water in the pitch, and with the Sun, he will be shocked if it doesn't swing.

So I am really fearing this South Africa pace attack.

And for once Im going to try and watch a full day's play!

Cricket God I am agreeing with a lot of what you say but I dont think every team needs to have an incredibly fast bowler, You pick a fast bowler because he is fast but also controls it, This is why Saj Mahmood was dropped, He had pace but had no control and a lot of what happened with Harmison, Yes he could bowl fast but a lot of the time he could not control. It although he looks a much better player for his county now.

Also just as they have been saying on Sky Sports, yes are bowlers arent as quick but actually Steyn is there only exceddingly quick bowler, Was watching some of the South African stats and Morkel and Ntini the fastest ball they have bowled have bee 93-92 mph, and I know that Jimmy can actually reach that pace when bowling well.

Since when Have I been a Cricket God?

Interesting start. The pitch doesn't have much bounce in it, on a good length. Steyn seemed a bit out of form. No big 'moment's as yet. About 3 boundaries and they just had 4 leg byes. Morkel has gone for 16 in 2 and a bit overs. Big bloke. No swing, well some, but nothing to write home about.

South Africa won toss. I would have batted. Looks like a good pitch to bat on, need to get yourself in though. Cook is looking good.

looks like nothing in it for bowlers, the rain has made it slow & low. Although it does help that Morne is having serious control problems

I think hes talking about the person with the username Cricket God on the other page.

Yeah I am, Sorry it annoys me when people quote whole long posts and just generally makes the page bigger than it needs to be,

Good to see some more Speedwat fans on here mate!

On the Cricket side.

zzzzzz Now I know why I hate test Matches!

I have to agree with the commentators they quickies are pitching the ball too short (as in perfect length on a SA pitch) there isn't that sort of pace or bounce in the pitch and to get any success the ball has to be pitched a little bit further up the pitch.

Ntini seemed slightly more threatening when he popped the odd ball fuller while bowling to Strauss, I just hope that the bowlers realise it and work on pitching the ball fuller.

SA need to bowl slightly fuller to break this, seemingly, quite solid opening partnership at the moment.
Great start to the match by Strauss and Cook for England.
I think, as Michael Holding has said, that it would be best to bat first on this pitch as it will quicken up on days 2/3.

Steyn and Morkel are both most effective against right handers - this opening partnership will therefore be extremely crucial.

SA's bowling has been very disappointing. Too short and all over the place. They're currently making our efforts look pretty impressive. Steyn has bowled 5 overs as I post this. Ridiculous. Smith's captaincy has been strange. You kinda wonder if they were prepared. Bowlers didn't seem to know the plan. The bowling was all over the place. Bowlers going around the wicket and over. Weird bowling changes. Pretty confusing if you ask me.

SA are going to have to lift their game. You don't wanna inert a team and not take early wickets.

As i said in the preview the series, south africa bowlers struglgle against left handed batsman, there bowling is one dimensional everybody hits the deck,
got to boast a bit:D

having a genuine quickie has its advantages because others can dry up the runs while he can attack even if he concedes runs if he gets wickets
its always good for the team.

steyn is not as rapid ,actually morkel is the fastest and ntini is around the
135 mark now adays

next target for openers should be to tackle reverse swing as morkel is quite agood mover of the old ball

In most games, Morkel has got a yard on Steyn but Steyn has hit 97.4mph in the past and so he has the ability to bowl quicker.

Hmmm, hardly a fantastic observation and anyway, Ntini is usually a very good bowler to left handers.

Good start from the openers, this is what England are looking from them, which is to see off the new ball, make a big score and then the likes of Vaughan and Pietersen will naturally lift the scoring rate when the ball gets softer.

The SA bowlers have been to short when you need to bowl full and aim at the stumps. The batsmen have told themselves not to drive at this point and to wait for anything short, in which they can cut and pull.
