South Africa in England

Kabir Ali showing why he shouldn't be overlooked an in complete opposite Tremlett showing why he should never play for England. Especially in one day cricket! He is at that pace where you won't hit him in Test Cricket but you will hammer him in One Day cricket.

I've never understood why they continue to persist with Tremlett in one day cricket. I reckon he probably should've played more tests than he has, but he should not be anywhere near the ODI side. Similar to Hoggy in that respect.

I don't think that it is his pace but that he always bowls that hittable length and very 'softly' rather than hitting the pitch hard.

Compared to what? Panesar did as well as any bowler.

Anderson was miles better, as was Flintoff and probably Harmison, the only reason that Panesars's average is as good as it is is because he picked up "many cheap lower order wickets" to quote Scyld Berry

Anderson bowled miles better than any bowler on display this summer. And yes that does include Steyn, Morkel, Flintoff etc.

Heck, on the standard seen this summer, we could easily pick Anderson just for His batting, let alone his bowling and fielding

I still beleive that 34 was one of the most fantastic innings i've seen, given the circumstances.

Bell keen for senior role under Pietersen

Ian Bell is ready to support England captain Kevin Pietersen by taking on added responsibility as one of the more senior players in the team, the batsman said.

Bell, a veteran of 43 tests, said that after the exit of experienced players such as Marcus Trescothick, Ashley Giles and Matthew Hoggard it was time for him to be recognised as an elder statesman.

"I am now recognising in both the One-dayers and the Tests I am one of the more senior players and that I need to go out and play like that," Bell said in an interview.

Yeah, but it was still not a brilliant series for Anderson. I meant that it's hard to be disappointed with one bowler in a series where none of them were exceptional throughout.

He bowled better than stats suggest. The way he set up both Smith and Kallis in the last test was masterful. He does look like he might be coming of age as an international bowler.

The stats show that Morkel was the best bowler in the series, and we all know that wasn't the case. Spraying the ball about like mad, his first spell on the 5th day of the last test was like watching Harmison from the 2006 Ashes or the West Indies series in England, he was shocking. Anderson deserved far better figures than he got, as did Harmison. Anderson was far and away the best bowler in the series for me, most consistent anyway.

I do hope Wrighty plays. He put in a decent all-round performance yesterday (29 and 2-22). Batting at 7, I feel he can be a very dangerous player. Key did well yesterday, also.

I couldn't find a place for him in my first choice team but with Colly out that leaves him a place at 6 I think.. I'd go for something like this:

Prior
Bell
Pietersen
Shah
Bopara
Wright (With Collingwood in after ban)
Flintoff
Swann
Broad
Anderson
Sidebottom

That'd be the team I'd go for anyway.

With five bowlers already, Wright would be playing as a specialist batsman; surely he does not merit that.
