Side looks average ? We bat down to 9, have Freddie batting well, have a good opening partnership forming, Pietersen on form, Samit Patel offering spin options and batting, 4 World Class bowling options in ODi cricket. We no longer rely on just Flintoff and Pietersen to get the runs, and then Flintoff to pick up the wickets. We're fielding better than South Africa, have a dynamic and exciting captain and look a far better side than even the side that played New Zealand. Where's the weakness in the side ?
South Africa's ODi team has been their strong suit, they were top of the rankings last year, before the world cup iirc. They looked a quality ODi outfit, with the likes of Pollock, Hall, Langeveldt, Kemp, and they also had Ntini and Nel on form. They still don't have a bad side, but they've been outclassed by England, pure and simple. They look a batsman short, but yet the bowling isn't brilliant. You'd expect if the team was a batter short that they'd have a good bowling attack, but frankly it isn't brilliant. This year their test side is their strong suit, but in the 18 months prior to this series I'm sure they'd have claimed that ODi's are their strong suit.
As for the Botha comment, heard of a joke ?
