South Africa in England

Actually, if you watch clips of him bowling against Yorkshire today, you'd see he bowled a jaffer that bowled Vaughan.

So? By deliveries too good for County batsmen, I meant moving so much that they cannot touch them but international batsmen could. He is getting outbowled by team mates on too much of a regular basis for an England recall to be considered.

I rate Saj highly, but didn't know he was churning out the pace in the 4-day game, it is promising. However, I stick by my judgement that Anderson is the quickest bowler over two innings over five days in England - check out the numbers, he reads pretty highly, pretty consistently.

No, I am not implying that Jimmy or his hair are pretty.

His hair's fit.

You are probably right. Anderson's fitness and conditioning is a lot better than Mahmood's and that's bound to have something to with maintaining consistent pace.

I feel sorry for Hoggard really. I still rate him higher than Sidebottom but you can't drop Ryan at the moment.

So Vaughan's not an International batsman?

And I had to dig for this but in the 2007 CC Season, James Anderson averaged 31.61 for 18 wickets but by 2008, he had taken 27 wickets at 24.08 so it can happen.

most of the 27 wickets are of struggling kiwi batsmen.

So he failed against India and Sri Lanka? No, he didn't. He can only perform against who is put in front of him and he has.

ya but still he isnt in the class of a jones or flintoff.

Nothing to say Jones isn't playing well enough to be in the England side. 25 wickets at 11 will do for me.

Thing with Jones, is he hasn't really played a lot of Cricket. He is bowling very well. If we had a dead rubber at the end of the Saffer series, I'd consider bringing him in. He'll be on one of the tours, no doubting that.

We need to phase Simon Jones back into cricket, just as Worcestershire are. We can't really have him in the side at the moment as it would need to be a case of one test in, one test resting, which totally screws up any consistency we'd have. Give him till the end of the season and take him to the Windies. Hopefully win the first few games, giving us a series win then give him some rest, that'd be the ideal plan. However, playing cricket as both sides are I feel the Windies are going to give us a great series.

We will also be ***** by the Saffa's.

Well the squad is announced at 12:30pm. This would be my squad for the first game at lords next thursday.

Strauss
Bell
Vaughan (c)
KP
Key
Shah
Fred (3)
Mustard (w)
Harmison (1)
Jones (2)
Panesar (4)

I'm of the opinion that a few changes are needed. We need to match South Africa with a sturdy batting lineup, and a fast bowling attack combined with a quality spinner. Extra bowling options could come in the form of Bell's military medium, or KP's rip snorting spin. :p

You've dropped 6 players. Ridiculous.

Harmison should never play for England again, hasn't got the mentality to play international cricket. Proven that in interviews and on the pitch. Flintoff has only just come back from a side strain/intercostal tear, showing that the lack of bowling he has done has taken it's toll. He's had that injury a few times since the beginning of the 07 season.

I agree with the Shah selection, much better batsman than Collingwood. I'm unsure on the keeping issue, Ambrose was horrific in the ODIs, but hasn't done much wrong in Tests, and Mustard's FC record is average at best. Key choice is an interesting one, I know he could do a good job for England, but they will stick with Cook. I think they are quite even in the batting stakes.

Monty is the key for me, I feel he can rip through South Africa.

England have named an unchanged Test squad.

Come on, Gas, bite! :p

AMBROSE IS STILL IN THE TEAM!

HAHAHA Easy SA Win.

My England team.

1.Cook
2.Strauss
3.Vaughan
4.Bell
5.KP
6.Shah
7.James Foster
8.Broad
9.Sidebottom
10.S.Jones
11.Panesar

A few controversial ones in their.

James Foster for me is the best Keeper/Batter in England and deserves a test match.
KP at 5 would work well as it gives him the attacking license he needs.
Simon Jones has proved he is fit and can give England what they need a express Paceman.
Shah in for Collingwood because Shah is a great batter Collingwood is not.

Ambrose is actually a very good test keeper, he's done nothing wrong in Test Cricket and has played a few vital innings for us, one of which in the NZ series, putting on a massive partnership with Pietersen which pretty much won us the game.

Also, why the hell would you promote Bell above Pietersen ? Bell was awful in the NZ Test Series, and struggled to get passed 40 in the ODi series. I still think Bell's far more suited for the number 6 role, the position where a large bulk of his runs have come. Shah should then come in for Collingwood. With Flintoff coming in at 6 when he's found some proper batting form and bowling form, he would then naturally come in at 6 with Bell/Shah going in at 5.
