Sri Lanka in England/Netherlands

Vaughans best position is opening.

Strauss for me seems to make some silly errors.

Todays dismissal for instance.

He needs a good summer for sure.

I don't mind where Vaughan bats, as long as he plays! I just think he is a class acct and is quite simply, the best captain in the world. Strauss, like you said, is prone to poor dismissals, whereas the opposition have to work really hard to get Colly out, and Cook is a great young player. Strauss has to go in my book.

Also, Iv'e just discovered on Channel 5 that Chaminda Vaas has faced more balls than any other Sri Lankan batsman, 400+! Testament to England's inability to dismiss the tail/Sri Lankan tail end resistance.

It's not so much dismissing the tail it's Vaas as a whole. He's got a great defensive stance and is hard to break down.

As for Vaughan, his leadership skills add to England but I would prefer to see him opening with Tresco

^ Fully agreed, his best cricket has come as an opener, however we shouldn't be so hasty in dropping Strauss, he's a brilliant cricketer, batting and fielding, and i think he has a role in the side. I'd like to see Vaughan and Strauss open, with Trescothick coming in at 3. Then Cook can be at 4, Pietersen 5, Flintoff 6...

Well done to Jon Lewis, about frigging time he played for England, a good display too, let's hope he stays around in the setup.

Where has my post about Strauss getting dismissed gone ?

I have a good idea who it is who has removed it along with another of my posts in another thread, very big of you that is to start removing posts that aren't offensive in anyway, especially the one about Strauss all i said was that, 'Strauss had been bowled by Vass and the score was 25-1,' or aren't we allowed to update people on the score and who was out now ?

He has dropped at least 3 sitters so far this summer! As for his batting, he is a class player, but you can't just keep him in the side because of that, he has to produce runs consistently, and he just hasn't. Let him hang around with the county circuit for a while to get some form back ahead of the Ashes. And I don't care what anyone says, Trescothick is England's best opener, not no.3 or no.4, he is our best opener.

Dropping Strauss is the best option in my opinion. THe wake up call will do him good at least. Make him fight back for his place. Hes obviously not fully focused with those poor scores and dropped catches.

Strauss just isn't a particularly good option at slip, it's not like he's got loads of experience in that position. He started out as a cover/point fielder for England in 2004 and hasn't ever really looked comfortable in the slips in my opinion. I know we may have a lack of options in that position, but you can't persist with someone who doesn't really look like taking catches in there!

He is in good form, scored a big hundred in his only CC match and has looked good in this series until getting out. He was a bit unlucky in the second test with that sweep in that it ballooned off the pad for an easy catch. Having seen the ball he got today, I think Vaas deserves some credit. If you look closely, he's turned the ball round so the shiny side is positioned for an in-swinger to the left hander, Strauss has played for the usual ball that goes away slightly. Well bowled Vaas for me.

Top notch century in the third test against India and did alright in the ODI series, particularly the game he captained and got runs. I feel Collingwood may be the most vunerable, despite his performances in Pakistan and India, then the fifty in the first test in this series. He doesn't deserve to be dropped, but I can't see him coming before Strauss and Cook in the selectors eyes.

If they drop Collingwood for Vaughan i'll become an aussie fan.

Good on ya :)

Pathetic batting from SL, they should have got much more than that on this track. KP will make them pay today. Flintoff might also do something this series with the bat after his good bowling display.

Well the wickets were all wickets that were due to very good line and length bowling so must give credit to the England bowlers and even the best batsman's in the world would of been dismissed to those deliveries especially Flintoff's wickets just before lunch. Hope Pietersen can continue his fine form and carve up a century once again.

Great to see Flintoff finding more rhythm, or should I say pace, with his bowling and taking the initiative. It's great when he imposes himself upon the game, as he seems like a pretty inspirational figure, but really, how didn't they finish off the tail?
I can understand how the lower order can frustrate a side in the field after they've already built up momentum, and as the saying goes, 'only good batsman get edges', but a partnership like that should be broken, considering it happens pretty much every innings with England. There would have been a massive element of luck I guess, but I don't have foxtel, meaning I couldn't watch the game, so I can't really make an assessment. Nevertheless, a good day, and yet another poor display by the Sri Lankan top order- if England approach this half-decently, they can really bat SL out of the equasion with the potent players they have up their sleeves, and at the crease.

Yeah, as a far as I know, you're not allowed to give basic score updates if it isn't accompanied with any additional comment or opinion, as live commentary is available on plenty of other sites. I did it once, and if I remember correctly, it was quickly deleted. Hope that helps...:)

We need to get 350+ today so we need as few runs as possible in the last innings when Murali is bowling on a wearing pitch.

I thought you were a Kiwi :).

England need to get a big lead but we haven't got off to a good start. Though another KP hundred will set us up nicely, and him to take over Ricky Ponting :D

Murili got Pietersen.

Pietersen is a great player, he has all the talent and he will end up going out playing aggressive shots like that probably a lot in the future. I don't think he needs to change his game, he just needs to take his time a little more, he had hit a 6 already that over, there wasn't need to hit another.
