Sri Lanka in England/Netherlands

Andrew its obvious that you dislike Giles, but he still did a job with bat and ball last summer wouldnt you agree ?
Are you seriously suggesting that averaging nearly 60 with the ball is a good performance for a front line bowler?

And averaging less than 20 with the bat, by the way.

Much different 12 for Sri Lanka tomorrow to pick from.

Tharanga
Vandoort
Sangakarra
Jayawardene
Dilshan
Kapugedara
Maharoof
Murali
Malinga
Vaas
Zoysa
Jayasuriya

iirc.

I agrre let Panesar have more time on his fielding, that's probably why has hasn't got a chance in ODI's. Well if i was coach i would have him noway near the ODI team.

In 2 list A games for Northants he has a 5 for :D

Giles does a decent job? He averaged nearly SIXTY with the ball in the Ashes last year. That is far from decent.

I seem to remember an Aussie bowler whcih averaged 100 in that series too! And he has weasled his way back into the test side.

In fact only three Aussie bowlers would have a better average!

What i meant was that his fielding could cost a lot in and ODI game, as every run is vital unlike test matches where you can let the odd run.

Lots of spinners, whos names I have already mentioned elsewhere. If you think that averageing nearly 60 is a good performance for a front-line bowler, then there is something wrong with you. I'd be disapointed if a part-time bowler averaged that.

His role isn't to take wickets. It's to sturdy the batting and when he bowls he gives the likes of Harmy, Hoggy and Fred a rest by bowling tight lines. Australia know how important Giles is to England because there was an article mentioning they had to hit him out of the attack because he is very dangerous.
I can't wait to see Gilo in the field again playing for England

Of course not! How could I be so stupid! Bowlers aren't supposed to take wickets. Thanks for enlightening me! All my cricket watching life I've been under the assumption that bowlers were supposed to do that. Thanks for setting me straight!

Jon Lewis has been picked in the 11 replacing Mahmood. Should be interesting seeing how Lewis goes this time against the Lankans.

You have to remember that the Aussies said before the series that they were going to target Giles and smack him around. I doubt theres a bowler in the world who if the Aussie batting line up of then said "right, lets just knock him around the park" would have a good bowling average.

Good choice, Mahmood has been struggling a bit recently. Lets see how he goes, but he shouldn't be bowling until the end of saturday if we win the toss :).

Gilesspie 100.00, Kasprowicz 62.18, Tait 42, Lee 41. For a spinner who isn't meant to attack a lot he didn't do bad. Also some of his wickets were vital, like Ponting when well set at Edgbaston, and he got Warne a few times when he was hitting everyone out the park.

But were they good enough at the time to be able to take on the Aussies last summer, as mentioned by somebody else, the aussies aimed to target Giles so no wonder he had a high economy, it will be interesting now to see what happens when he does return from injury.

I look forward to seeing Lewis, I always look forward to seeing players for the first time.

Also Jaysuria, Man do I hope he fires. He is so exciting to watch.

Looking forward to this. I wanna see more of a game this time.

Well SL get first use of a good pitch. If they can't bat well on this then they deserve to lose 2-0.
