A specialist opener is one who has been specifically trained for opening (i.e.) before playing international cricket! Sehwag came in as a middle order batsman and since the team needed to fit him into the team, they made him an opener and he has been a huge success!

Jaffer and Gambhir are trained openers (i.e.) they are coached to open the innings, face the new ball, etc. They have also opened a lot in domestic cricket! They are called specialist openers!
Sai thanks a lot for explaining me! And, I don't think Jaffer and Gambhir both will play, but one of them surly will play and open the inning. So, who do you think from one of those has more changes to play and open the inning with Viru today? Jaffer or Gambhir? I think Gambhir!

I dont have an opinion on that! Both are well equipped but I think Jaffer should open because Gambhir has this problem of falling his head over when he plays Vaas and has got out in the same fashion for low scores in all three innings in this series!

Kaif can play in place of Gambhir and Jaffer can open with Sehwag if thats an option!

Ghambhir and Jaffer will open somehow. And I am sure that Ghambhir will perform today somehow.

That would be nice, but somehow I am also forced to think of the opportunity of Kaif replacing Dravid. Kaif is a solid player who is known for his good tight technique and can also score quick runs by running speedy singles! In case of a collapse, Kaif can take the responsibility and put the Indian innings back on the rails!

I am divided on this! Let Sehwag and Chappell worry abt it. Whatever combination it is, I want to see India winning at Ahmedabad!

Another news on what actually happened before the Saurav dropping saga:

http://www.hindustantimes.com/news/181_1575668,0035.htm

Chappell is tough, we Indians better get in line with him or else we are going to bring to ourselves lot of mental tension by mulling over why Chappell is against Saurav, etc. Chappell will not work according to the Indian way of thinking! He is doing what he feels is the best!

After Saurav did that outburst in the media of the private meeting between him, the coach and the team managemenet, I wont believe him on anything and I strongly feel what Chappell says is right! I think Saurav still is not mixing around well with the others in the dressing room (DRESSING ROOM as I stress it)!

See, Chappell is aggressive in what he wants! You have to be. Why did you bring him in? You guys wanted him to rejuvenate the team and make it perform. Well he is doing it certainly very well. The definition of a coach has changed greatly over the years! Its the pivotal post in a team and its the fulcrum around which the team revolves! If the fulcrum does good, the team does well!

I hear lots of people saying that the team is looking hungry, determined and quite focussed on succeeding! SO WE SHOULD LEAVE IT TO CHAPPELL who I am sure will certainly take care of the success of Indian cricket! At least he has shown lot of promising signs of doing that!

Well we'll need Chappell but not at the cost of Ganguly or Zaheer, in case they perform well.

Zaheer performed well in domestic and according to his coach, his attitude has changed as well. If Chappell still doesn't want him...he then has issues he needs to sort out.

Seriously, you can't come and change everything at once. Dravid not wanting Ganguly makes some sense but not Chappell's case.

You can smell something foul behind the scenes as well.

And to all Chappell lovers, beware....for now Chappell might be doing wonders with Indian team, but as we experienced before, not only in cricket, its better to stick with our own ways rather than relying on others.

What is happening now is, Chappell is creating a force of India out of nothing! That is not really good.
What Ganguly-Wright did was build a platform, a basement upon which India could build its momentum. I don't see that basement yet.

I'm neither a Chappell supporter nor Ganguly's. But you cannot simply kick out players because the coach is "uncomfortable" with them. It defies logic and common sense.

The start of the match is delayed by half an hour due to heavy dew, it will start at 4:30 (GMT).

Gambhir stays, Kaif in ..but Vaas out of the match!
L. Malinga is in for him.

I hope Sehwag and Gambhir star again in their opening partnership.

Come on INDIA!!! Gambhir is lucky to have another chance. Today he will have to play for a big inning. The only danger man in the Sri Lankan lineup is Murli and other aren't that dangerous.

Aw shoot Gambhir goes trying to hook. And he was playing better than before.

India 31-1 Laxman and Sehwag on the crease.
Pawar in the comm box?

Good start by India so far! Sehwag looking in good touch! Gambhir was too aggressive and it was an unneeded shot! According to the run rate, this is a great start for India!

The wicket is again dual bounce one! Man, how many wickets do we come across like that? Some balls keep a bit low and some balls rear up! If it stays like this, Kumble can may be think of making his 100th test a memorable one!

Surprise Surprise! Sharad Pawar being interviewed by Arun Lal in the commentary box! Speaks about his appointment as BCCI president, transparency in the functioning of the board, etc. Was nice to hear!

Ay Caramba! India are 103/5!
Yuvraj 0, Sachin 23, Kaif 4!

Unpredicted nightmare for Indian team and selectors.

Come on Dhoni!

Also Chappel had strongly and aggresively fought against Sourav's inclusion in the team as he was a 'lazy fielder', 'created rifts in the team' and 'did not laugh and mix with the team'

Dravid too had wanted him out of the team because he was aware that Chappel was against Sourav's inclusion in the playing 11 and he did not want a former captain sitting in the dressing room and carrying drinks.

The source also said that the coach did not want Zaheer in the team, but his name was to be considered for the Pak tour.

Ok thats the report, I don't remember the news site or i would've just put the link.

@Chappel: Lazy fielder? Not after the last test.
Rifts in the team? You started it all.
Not laughing? Give the man a break he's back in the team after a long time feeling emasculated and dethroned it will take a while!

@ Dravid: I for one have lost all respect for this seemingly 'nice guy' and feel he is a backstabber after all Ganguly did for him he could've atleast given the man a chance.

I agree with u.

I am a great fan of Dravid and i respect him a lot but since last few days i too lost respect for Dravid for all the mess which is happenning in the Indian team. I dont say that Dravid is responsible for everything but as he should have done better for Ganguly.

I think Dravid doesnt want to go against Chappell. I even heard that Dravid and Ganguly are not seeing eye to eye and things are not good between them too. Not only that it seems no team mate was present with Ganguly when the team for the third test was announced. It seems that nobody wants to go against Chappell. I think everyone is afraid to support Ganguly. Its really disgrace to a player who has given so much to the Indian team.

I am not a Chappell supporter nor Ganguly, but I am not impressed with Chappell's statements. He too is a short tempered person (reffering to the incident between a TV reporter and Chappell and Chappell showing the middle finger).

Firstly, when this reporter was talking to Chappell, he got into the car and suddenly closed the door on him. The reproter's hand got stuck in between the door. That was rude on Chappell to behave. Secondly, It's bullshit what Indian Team Management stated that " Chappell was attending to his fingure ". I dont know why he is being covered up by the Management.

God help Indian Cricket.
