Sluggish combination. Batsmen showed no intent. The combination has been collapsed. Meanwhile, Inzy has done the damage by disturbing the ODI combination as well by introducing Imam ul Haq as an opening batsman. Test Match opening pair has already been disturbed by trying a new combination of Masood and Aslam instead of Shehzad and Fakhar Zaman I'd say or Azhar Ali...

Shafiq needs to be dropped immediately... Perhaps Now is the time to give Fawad Alam a chance in the middle order in place of Asad Shafiq and Usman Salahudin in place of Babar Azam to teach Azam a lesson that you got to perform if you want a place in the test side

I been really disappointed with Babar Azam in test, even Shahid Afridi got better average then him in Test.

Unfortunately, he isn't quite there yet. Might take him some solid performances in domestic before he should be considered again.

Perhaps Shastri should watch the booking for 96 as well. The first win of Lanka wasn't easy it was nail biting. This match is competitive as well. Pakistan is missing the Mis-You at the moment in their batting. It will take some time to have a settled batting lineup but the talent here is immense. Score above 400 on these flat wickets in first innings is a no big deal but Pakistan felt the pressure in both matches and couldn't get enough lead in the first match as well and suffered with the fourth innings chase pressure. The team will bounce back. More test matches more confidence

Sorry, but I don't see immense talent here..

Here? You mean in India? Do you even follow Pakistan domestic cricket to be able to say that you don't see any talent?

No need to get so touchy. I don't think Azam is ready for test cricket. Shafiq is a quality player as is Ali but my definition of immense talent would be the likes of Root, Williamson, Kohli and Smith. And you think I can only praise Pakistan? There's a genuine dearth of test talent in the batting in the next generation. India's got more batting talent on the little finger than all of Pakistan. Our batting is very comparable to the bowling of the Pakistani's in the 90's. You just pick people and they're ready to go!

Sarfraz and Shafiq are doing the right thing here, which is to at least attack the bowlers here. Watched a bit of when Sarfraz came in and immediately there was the intent to attack and rotate strike. That is how Pakistan should have played when they started the innings.

You aren't going to get a draw if you keep blocking (courtesy Masood) but only thing you can do here is rotate the strike constantly and bat sessions out while maintaining a solid run rate.

Unfortunately, SL have the better chance because Pakistan doesn't have a good lower order. These two have to continue as long as they can.

Azhar Ali averages 63 since August last year. He's played 10 Tests outside Asia in that period.
Saud Shakeel, Saad Ali, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Usman Salahuddin, Fakhar Zaman and some others are very talented young batsmen who have the potential to do well in Tests. Not to mention Fawad Alam. As i said before, you shouldn't say that there isn't any talent just because you don't follow domestic matches.
Remind me how many young batsmen have established themselves in India's Test team in the past couple of years? I can only count KL Rahul. Let's wait till they make it to international level first before saying they're ready. Was Karun Nair ready to go? He played just one good innings.

But Pakistan never play at home at all so all these new players play away all the time.
I do agree that India got better batsman but I believe Pakistan have better bowlers then India.
As For Baber Azam in test...well I agree 100%, he been really poor and needs to be replaced until he can prove it in Pakistan Domestic cricket.

At the moment India are more settled Test side than Pakistan. We also do have a dearth of talent, most recently Hardik Pandya has made his way into the team with some stellar performances.

Pakistan is quite unsettled after Mis-You, but still expected them to still put up better competition than this,

How can you not expect them to? Pakistan just lost its two best players.

Let's see how he does in the next few tours. Certainly promising. I was talking about batsmen btw, since @kushal17 mentioned a lack of batting talent.

Last statement is a bit of a fallacy. India have their own template for a test side that they can chop and change at will if they see fit. The seniors already form the back-bone of the side and are established in the XI.
Pakistan however are reeling after the recent retirements and are yet to find what works best in the longer format. No doubt that they will eventually once/if the selectors get their heads screwed on, but it's a lengthy process.
