All Time ODI Cricket Draft <---Shravis uppp

The run on batsmen continues with...

Sir Vivian Richards

A man amongst boys back when ODI cricket was played in whites, Viv dominated ODI cricket with his powerful, arrogant strokeplay. He was the Gilchrist or Sehwag equivalent - a guy bowlers feared. In an age where 3.5-4 RPO was considered normal, Viv scored at almost 5.5. But for all his brutality, he was also a prolific scorer, scoring 6721 runs at an average of 47.00 and striking 11 centuries from the middle order. He scored 138 in the World Cup final of '79 to lead the Windies to victory and he also played possibly the greatest of ODI innings (sorry Sachin...) of 189* v England at Old Trafford in 1984. He was only 96 with the Windies in deep trouble when last man Michael Holding came in and he dominated to add over 100 in quick time for the last wicket.

Viv also bowled some underrated off spin (he took 118 wickets in his 187 matches). Viv will be my 6th bowler incase for some reason the other 5 can't do the job or there is extra turn on the mythical pitch in the sky where this XI will play. Viv was also a very good fielder an example being his derailing of the Aussies in the World Cup final of 1975 with a couple of direct hit runouts.

Finally, don't know what the others were thinking.

Indeed :p Best of the lot IMHO.

Man don't be posting names of players that haven't been taken yet.
Don't be sorry, just edit or delete your post.

OK I can delete if you want, but do we really want this 'rule'?

Why exactly can't a name of an undrafted person be mentioned? Is it suddenly going to jog someone's memory? Oh yeah, little Kalu...he was a pocket rocket for a couple of years... It's not Voldemort we're discussing, it's a cricket forum.
Am I giving away secrets by dropping other names? Maybe I am, but if you take two clicks to the Sachin v Viv thread you can see some more of my secrets or maybe take a gander at my all time ODI XI I posted last year. Should I not post there either??
Am I taking the focus off the guy who's been picked? Slightly I suppose, but I was merely trying to reinforce how underrated Jayasuriya is and how important he's been to ODI cricket.

If it's a rule that's been in play for previous drafts, fine I'll play along - but I don't like it if I can't mention guys merely in passing.

Its generally a rule thats used in these drafts. In the end its about who has the best team and some people might miss a great ODI player and pick an average one but if that players name is mentioned then the people before you might take him.

FFS, he was going to be my first pick. Ah well, amazed it took so long to pick him tbh.

Jacques Kallis

Kallis is one of the great all-rounders. With 298 ODi games to his name, he's been the most consistent all-rounder of the modern era. Kallis has made 10,613 ODi runs at an average of 45.74 with 17 centuries, which is impressive enough before you mention the fact he has also taken 251 wickets at a very healthy average of 32.01. Genuinely awesome cricketer that continues to improve and put in top class performances.

You can mention them if you want, nobody can stop you.

Dare added 1 Minutes and 37 Seconds later...

I knew you were going to take him if someone else didn't. Dont understand how Viv lasted for so long.

Yeah, I was expecting him to be the 2nd pick after Tendulkar tbh. Ah well, I'm happy with Kallis, means I've secured the bloke I consider to be the best ODi all-rounder.

OK cool. Just wondered where it came from. I'll make an effort to not drop too many names ;)

Can we pick players that have already been picked by others?

Anyways I will send my nominee soon :)

LOL, no... Do you know what a draft is man? That's the second question that you've asked that you should already know the answer to.
