Australia's Tour Of India - 2008

This basically ...

I hate it players do this just because things aren't going their way.

Not deliberate, my arse. But what's done has been done, they should both get their punishments and we should just get over it.

"There once was a fellow named Ponting
Whose attack was suddenly found wanting
Though they toiled all day
They failed to make way
The memories of Warnie must be taunting!"

Found it on the BBC site from an Aussie fan, thought it was kinda amusing.

TBH Warnie would have done nothing fantastic as well. ;)

LOL...

Someone's gonna be cranky when they wake up.

:D:D

Much much better... I would more than love to take 296/3 with Gautam's 149* over Sach'z hundred. In fact I am really happy seeing the result of the day after we were 27/2.

Boo yeah. 50 Partnership in no time. Just over 8 overs...100 up with a BANG!

This guy is just FABULOUS! Just see the way he has come up after being someone who couldnt convert his starts is big substantial ones. Gautam Gambhir has announced his big time arrival in international cricket, and the way he has cemented his place big time in all three formats is just amazing. He is now one of India's premier batsman.

After a shaky start, a fantastic end to the day's play. Gambhir was slow, but it seems he kicked up after drinks in the 2nd session. Sachin played an innings that reminded one of his heydays. Laxman has carried on the good work, and they have carried India to 296 for just 3 loss of wickets. We have this pair followed by Ganguly, Dhoni, Kumble and Zaheer Khan. If we can get to 450 runs and bat out two sessions of Day 2 and leave Australia just for the last hour of Day 2, we would be in a terrific position in this test match. We have Kumble and Mishra (who turns it big too). they will have lot of fun in this wicket. Hoping for a good day 2 for India.

Good to see Clarke being the voice of reason there

Once again it was Indian's being out of order. First Zaheer Khan and now this. No need for it. I know people get fired up, however, there is being agressive and being out of order. Kumble should take certain players aside and tell them to wind it back in

Gambhir saying, he elbowed by mistake ???? Have we all gone blind

Why hasn't Katich bowled all series with that turn? And why on earth are we playing White when we have Katich that can turn it. Just shows what proper spinners can do on a turning wicket and this only the 1st day.
Everyone here had been calling for Katich to be bowled since the 1st Test match. I suppose Ponting isn't really that good a captain when he doesn't have a sleuth of match-winning bowlers surrounding him.

Well put. A genius of a batsman he may be, but a fantastic captain he most certainly is not.

Definately, he is not a fantastic captain. He is the best Captain ever after Steve Waugh tbh i rate Punter higher than Steve

I believe it was actually Watson on the first run who stuck out his arm while Gambhir was running the single, and caused Gambhir to run around him. Just gave him back some of his own, immaturely I might add, and he'll probably be fined his full match fee. Shouldn't matter, though, seeing that he has the Australian's down for the count.

I'm also sick and tired of all these conversations being initiated by the Australian bowlers with the batsmen. It's obviously a big part of their game plan to talk to the batsmen in the effort to get them out, since their form and skill is falling short by quite a lot.

Avroneel, either you're saying he's not a fantastic captain but still the best Australia have ever had.

Or, you're saying he's been the best captain since Steve Waugh which goes without saying since he's been the only captain after Waugh.

TBF, Sohum, all Australian bowlers do that. They've all been twats. Zaheer Khan's not a treat either.

You are quite simply wrong. Steve Waugh is probably the best captain in this generation, apart from Stephen Fleming and Michael Vaughan. Ponting is a great batsman but as a captain he is quite average. Anyone who claims Ponting is a better captain than Steve Waugh needs to be given a primer on Test cricket in the 90's. It was Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor who built the foundations for the Australian juggernaut of the last two decades.

Additionally, I was watching some of the highlights and was amazed by the number of times the bowlers bowled on to Gambhir's pads. It's as if they expected the ball to ricochet off the pads on to the stumps or something.

Yeh, one of the highlights of the day for me was watching Johnson bowl a decent bouncer, give Gambhir some words, then next ball back to typical Johnson, short and on the pads, four runs to Gambhir, weren't as many words after that delivery that's for sure.

That passage of play was almost as entertaining as Bob Willis' punditry in between sessions was the highlight of the day though. He's so brutally honest that it's hilarious. I loved his little rant about the Aussie bowling attack, calling Johnson, White and Watson an "embarrassment". He needs to get more international coverage, he's such a legend.

Waugh > Ponting as a captain. Winning stuff doesn't prove a good captain, even Shoaib Malik could captain that Australian team to what they acheived. Ponting just resulted in following the ball during the day. He changed the field every single ball in a few overs. Must make it difficult for the bowlers if they've got a different field for each delivery.
