ICCCT2006: Group A

I never really read much into practice games, especially when England will be on the recieving end of an Aussie backlash next week. :(

Weirdly, his batting was supposed to be his stronger suit, yet it is his bowling that is currently securing his place.

@ Zorax - I think his bowling could potentially be more useful than the players you mentioned, but I doubt he will ever reach their heights with the bat. If he did, he would be indispensible.

How the hell did they need to chase 300???
D/L screws up again.

Nice to see Kulkarni still in action :) And doing well. Poor guy, took a wicket with his first ball in Test cricket, conceded plenty after that and never played again...

The biggest news of the day is that Australia lost the warm-up match. They target was revised from 219 runs to 300 runs, but still.

Mumbai snatch surprise win
The Bulletin by Kanishkaa Balachandran in Mumbai

Mumbai XI 218 for 8 (Sharma 49*, Watson 3-42) beat Australians 292 (Gilchrist 61, Ponting 55, Kulkarni 5-43) by seven runs (target revised to 300)

Yeah they didn't really get beaten though did they. Not only did they revise the target to give them something competitive to chase, they also allowed one of the Indian batsman to return having already been out earlier in the innings. So realistically, they would have been chasing 150 odd, and would have cruised home with 8 wickets to spare.

Good to see though, because whilst obviously partly motivated by the desire to get in a good warmup, it also gave the people who had gone to watch a much lengthier game of cricket.

That's just stupid. You can't bend the rules like that! Surely this doesn't count towards any official statistics ?!

don't think it counts, good to see watto in with runs/wickets!

LOL! It seems the Aussies wanted to chase 300. My bad :p
But I don't think that is allowed. I bet Mumbai don't mind though :p

Australia did not really lose. They recalled one of Bombay's batsmen to bat again because they wanted to bowl the full 50 overs.

Also they arbitrarily set a 300 target for themselves to be challenged.

It was like a match the Cricket team in my neighborhood played against our fathers. Boys Vs their Daddies. The out of shape Daddies would get 4 runs for every 2 runs they scored and the top 5 would bat twice. Also no LBWs for the Dads. Of course the boundary for the Dads was where mid on and mid off were.

But even so I felt deeply humiliated bcoz the Daddies won.

Actualy England are the ones with nothing to lose today.
They can go out there and perform without any expectations.
They are the underdogs of Group A which is not a bad thing for them because underdogs have always done well in he Champions Trophy.

If you peole believe in predictions , here are a few of them which a tarrot card reader made on todays` game on a TV Show :
And before Andrew pounces upon me and asks for some reasoning of why he should believe the forecasts , I would like to just inform that Iam not a believer of those either :
1.) Sachin will have an average day
2.) Sehwag,Irfan likely to shine.
3.) Dravid unlikely to have a good game
4.) England to win the toss.
5.) Flintoff not to have a good outing.
6.) Game to be a close one.

I feel England might just win this one .

GO INDIA GO !!

Wow how close was that?

The Indian batting line-up still looked a bit rusty.Sehwag was once again dismissed cheaply.:(

yup but Sachin played well and Yuvi's some cover drives were excellent...

But today, the bowling of Munaf,Powar& pathan was excellent!!! Though Agarkar gave away runs but he moved the ball well....

If batting is great bowling goes down...if bowling is great batting goes down.... India shd maintain a equal balance in this if they have to win the WC :)

I think Pathan and Dhoni must bat down the other. While players like Raina must bat up the order in number three or four.

Nah, Pathan is useful to exploit the Powerplays. Both with bat and ball :p He is like a first 15 over specialist :p
Dhoni is fine dow the order too. But Yuvi should stick at 4, and Dravid should be fluctuated. If we lose an early wicket, Dravid comes in. If batting first and need a solid platform, Dravid. If we have a great start, but lose quick wickets, Dravid.

What happened to Katich being given a chance to show his worth? Totally left out of the picture :) Watson and Gilly opening, I like that alot :D

One positive for the English from their game is how well Dalrymple bowled. Other than that not much to write home about.

I feel bad for Katich, since he tried his best and made consistent runs for his team. And he is still being left out. A bit the same problem Hayden has.
