ICCCT2006: Group A

What happened to Katich being given a chance to show his worth? Totally left out of the picture :) Watson and Gilly opening, I like that alot :D

One positive for the English from their game is how well Dalrymple bowled. Other than that not much to write home about.

Return of Anderson is surely a positive, also Mahmood going at under 5.

Snatching at straws though :mad

How the hell did they need to chase 300???
D/L screws up again.

Nice to see Kulkarni still in action :) And doing well. Poor guy, took a wicket with his first ball in Test cricket, conceded plenty after that and never played again...
Nothing to do with D/L. They changed the total to 300 so it could give the Australian batsmen more of a go.

The Australian batsman changed it to give the crowd something to watch*

Looks like Watson is being pushed ahead of Katich. That's fine for the Champions Trophy though I think Hayden is a much better batsman then both of them.

nice to see india win yesterday even though they lost 6 wikcets a win is a win but the batting has to improved

That's just stupid. You can't bend the rules like that! Surely this doesn't count towards any official statistics ?!
I'm inclined to believe that it's within the laws of cricket if the team captains and umpires agree to alternate match conditions, then whatever is agreed to is law for that match.

WI are going about this pretty well I rekon. I hope they post about 200. They are 4 down, but they could still make it there. It would be a good total and really put pressue on Australia. It will be hard to chase.

Up to Lara again to keep himself in and to just keep the scoreboard ticking.

Gilly starts off nice. Could be an easy chase for the Aussies unless the Windies take him out early.

And Watson goes. I think Katich is a better option for openeing tbh. His batting style complements Gilly's.

Ponting gone too now. Close to a dream start for the Windies, Gilly is dangerous.

Ah but would Katich have bowled 8 overs at one of the best economy rates in the Aussie side today? As well as picking up Gayle after he'd got off to a good start?

Personally I think Watson opening is a good choice for the Aussies. Give him a few games to get used to the role, and on top of that you get a bowler who can bowl anything up to 10 overs depending on success on the day.

puddle, nightprowler commented on Katichs batting ability compared to Watsons batting ability.

This is gonna be tight. Windies just need one or two more wickets...

Australia require another 79 runs with 6 wickets and 14.0 overs remaining

Gilly looking especially dangerous...

I know ;) Hence my next paragraph spoke about the batting. You would certainly hope Katich being a natural batsman was a better bat than Watson, but factor in his bowling, and I think it makes him a better selection even if he did fail with the bat today.
