we are not that Crap..
Pakistan haven't got a good leader.

I guess a great opportunity for Haddin to open now for a few games, or maybe Hopes. I'd go with Haddin, he's shown he can play some teriffic knocks, in SA last year he was good.

Surely we could have given Steven Smith a go, give him some International experience and the way hes going he could actually add to the side.

Well I disagree :laugh I'd open with Hopes, because if Haddin has to come in against the Pakistani spinners, he's MUCH, MUCH better against spin. That way you can use the guy for a batting powerplay in the middle overs if ever Australia try to do something bold :(

Also there is the continuity argument. If Haddin is seen as the long term #7 he's probably better off staying there.

Had this argument yesterday about Harris vs random young quick (and BTW Harris was picked on his IPL performances and Big Bash form more than anything - for those flummoxed), but I really don't see much point in throwing a young guy in just because you can. There needs to be a reason. You might say, well we just want to have a look at Steve Smith. If my boss started bringing in guys 'just to have a look', I'd start getting a little nervous about my job. Guys like Watson, White and Hauritz that have finally found that confidence, they don't need new, unnecessary guys coming in and chipping away at that confidence. Just my two cents.

Dont mind Hopes opening, but the times he has opened in the past he has made quick 20's without going on, Haddin has made a ton already opening and is a really solid player. But yeah i'd be happy with giving Hopes the go, I do like his game.

Surely its only a matter of time before Smith gets on ODI look in, his performances have actually been good enough for NSW in the shorter games to warrant higher selection.

Watson and White should have nothing to worry about. White was named vice captain for our T20 side and hes making the runs. Watson well hes one of the first picked. Picking Smith is giving him experience and also improving our depth should another of our batters get injured. Also should Hauritz get injured we don't have a spinner with ODI experience. Not what you want 1 year out from a World Cup.

How about Afridi yesterday guys, weak with the ball but came in at a pressure situation of the game and showed great maturity, had it been a little closer I think hecould have won the match for us. What you guys think, Afridi becoming more and more mature with the bat

Afridi has always had high potential, could have acieved much more in Test level.

Afridi has been living off potential since 1996 when he debuted. Some day he might fulfill that potential, maybe as captain??? Good player, but way too hit and miss. I liked him as an opener, but he just mindlessly slogged.

Yes, Haddin is more likely to score a 100, but I don't think it's a huge problem. A quick 20 from Hopes and I'd be satisfied. Marsh and Ponting should be the one scoring centuries, not your 7th best batter who's going to be opening and hopefully batting aggressively to get the team off to a good start. I'd like to see him used that way because in Sydney Watson really disrupted their new ball plans, it was just unfortunate neither he or Marsh could work the spinners well and capitalise on that start.

I Like the point about spinner depth especially since the WC is on the subcontinent, but I don't think Perth is the place to introduce one.

Introducing a young spinner is obviously going to worry Hauritz more than the other two, but I mentioned Watson and White because those 2 players seem to rely a lot on confidence and responsibility, that's all. And that's my real point, tinkering with squads reduces confidence.

This is why we should have more Australia A stuff in my opinion. Gives the young guys a chance to play at a higher level, but without threatening the older established players.

Yea I can agree with that but in this series I think he has batted sensibly, Harris bowled him perfectly with the yorker but nevertheless I think he has matured as a batsmen he doesnt just go after the first ball and get out. Definitely he has become an much more effective batsmen.

Hauritz will be rested at some point, its highly unlikely the selectors will play him in every game. Once you are getting rested you start to know the selectors have your spot locked in. I'd like to get Steven Smith in so that we have that aggressive batter that can offer part time spin with Hopes the medium pace version. Also the ODIs are always the best place to introduce players with a look towards the Test side.

I agree about more A games that is something that could improve our middle order depth. I don't see a problem with competition for spots though, it means players will know they have to keep scoring runs to stay in the team. Else you get a situation like you have in the Test team where guys like Hussey, North and Hayden are able to put in substandard performances and still keep their spots.

Hopefully we lineup like that, a shame to hear Aamer won't be fit.
