Sri Lanka in England/Netherlands

Oh, I see. Cricinfo failed to mention that. Fair enough indeed.

I did say I thought it would be a comfortable win, I was wrong there.

Talking to another chap on a forum is a paramedic, he reckons 4-6 weeks healing, then rehab. He reckons 8 weeks with a good physio.

So he may be back for Middlesex before the season ends.

Poor stuff from England here but all credit to Sri Lanka.
Jones had a stumping chance off Dlarymple, what a let off

Oh no! Chaminda Vaas is in now! England have to get rid of this tail quickly and their comeback will be complete. Good catch by KP too!

Chaminda Vaas is not a tail-ender, i though people would realise that he's probably now a bowling all-rounder.

I know Matty Hoggard has a poor ODI record, but how the hell does he not get picked in Englands ODI squads. He is one of the most inform bowlers in the world. To pick a guy like Tim Bresnan, yes he has potential, ahead of Hoggard is just stupid. Picking Bresnan ahead of Hoggard (or Kabir Ali) is worse than the Aussie selectors picking Mitchell Johnson ahead of Bracken (or nearly every other current Australia domestic fast bowler)

Hoggard was great in India in tests aswell and then went in the ODI squad and was useless. Because he is mainly an outswing bowler he got hammered.

He was given 2 games in Inida, hardly anything to go by especially in ODI. But are you going to tell me that Bresnan has done more to deserve selction ahead of Hoggard? No way.

Mitchell Claydon has done better than Tim Bresnan in the C&G Trophy this season. Mitchell Claydon is 3rd choice bowler for Sydney grade team Campbelltown-Camden. Who aren't the best team going around in Sydney grade.

I agree that Hoggard is useless in ODI's, but i'm also against the selection of Bresnan. Although we have to look forward to the World Cup, we should try to be winning games as well; Kabir Ali should have played today.

EDIT: Jones out! I can't help but feel sorry for him, he'll probably recieve more flack for that shot, but i'll defend him solidly because he needed to play shots to up the run rate.

Hoggard is far from useles, He's never had a run in the side, and now he has developed variation balls, he should be playing imo. I agree with Bresnan btw evertonfan, Kabir Ali has taken 20+ wickets at mid 20s average this season.

A poor display from us, the bowling indiscipline was the biggest factor. I would still play Gough in this team, because he is such a good death bowler still, and our best ever ODI bowler.

Dalrymple and Tres the only highlights of a poor innings with many of the top 5 getting themselves out, also Colly is an underrated bowler.

We played Murali well, and Dalrymple really impressed me today. I didn't see much of our bowling effort but I have recorded it.

Malinga bowled well, as did Fernando.

In the end our useless selectors cost us with playing 3 very inexperienced seamers in the same game, Sri Lanka were the better team though and congratulations to them.

Prior is better.

11 First Class hundreds, and he regularly keeps to the most dangerous spinner on the county circuit, and if he wasn't good enough to Mushie then Hodd would be playing, but is he? No.

I have never felt so deflated after a defeat. I can take being beaten convincingly by the likes of Australia, India and Pakistan, but England really should be beating Sri Lanka. The indisciplined bowling is a massive worry, and I would accept Darren Gough with open arms, Bresnan just did enough with the willow to earn another game, but I still feel Ali should be in there somewhere.

For sure.

We need to keep the batting the same as it is, Bell is a good fielder and in decent form despite todays inside edge.

I would bring in Ali for Bresnan. Mahmood was expensive but has a knack of taking wickets, but can we afford him and Harmison in the same team? Probably not and Harmison is taking wickets.

Well just shows how dependant England are on Kevin Pietersen. If he doesnt fire, they always end up losing. I think the likes of Strauss, Bell, Collingwood and Jones should shoulder a little bit more responsibility.

Hoping for the best and an England comeback in the remaining four games. I like the team lineup though and think players like Plunkett and Bresnan will learn a lot from these games, which might help in similar situations in the World Cup.

Harmison bowled well but 3-51 should of been about 3-21. His discipline was very poor. I don't think Bresnan and Mahmood should be in the team, we really need someone like Dazza to take the new ball and to bowl at the death. Bresnan is too inexperiecned and Mahmood has been very expensive. Batting was ok, Darylample played very well with the way he played Murali with sweeps & reverse sweeps, sort of like Andy Flower.

I think Cook should be given a go at opening; Strauss just doesn't seem to well opening in ODI's and more often than not, he is the first opener out. I remember a game in Pakistan wherby Strauss hit 90+ batting at 3, so I think England should try him there again.

This looks like a whole different Sri Lanka to the one we saw in the test matches. Same goes for England. KP hasn't carried his form from the longer form of the game it would seem.
SL bowlers of Fernado and Malinga worked really well.
