Third Test: Australia v England at Edgbaston

I would have no issue whatsoever with throwing Trott in. I would put all of them in ahead of Bell. I can't believe I forgot Shah as well.

Shah got stage fright and cramped against the West Indies. Against Australia you'll have to break the bat in half to get it out his hands.

For the tour game this would be my team:
Hughes- opportunity to prove himself
Hussey- find form opening the batting if we have to drop Hughes
Ponting- captain
Clarke- filler
North- Gain some confidence against spin (possibly raise him above Clarke)
Watson-Find batting form (possibly raise him above Clarke) and even give him a bowl if he can
Manou- Haddin a rest and give him an opportunity
Mcdonald- Opportunity and possibly use him like Hauritz if the wicket turns out to favour pacemen
Johnson- Find form or out
Lee- Find form
Clark- find form
I think that gives us an opportunity to leave no stone unturned.

4 man pace attack... Harsh on Hauritz as he does seem to be coming along. His wickets are getting a little better. It depends on the pitch I would say.

No way. Hauritz is bowling really well, plus I heard that Edgbaston will take spin. If we go in without him, have no one to tie up an end, no spin option, the pitch is turning, we aren't getting wickets or keeping the runs down, we will miss him. You can't miss him until he's gone...

I disagree. First innings he was good and the reason his second innings figures were so poor was because he only bowled one spell and it was when Australia were attacking and England had very aggressive fields.

i think onions did alright and he probably wouldve taken more if he got a bowl this morning
however with anderson and now broad bowling good line and length on top of them both being able to bowl long spells; does that make onions a little redundant; maybe harmison would be able to back up what freddie has been doing a bit more so we get the same balance in the attack as 2005 - id still be happy if we keep the same bowlers though, they all deserve to play

If there's anything that Australia have lacked so far it's the ability to swoop on a new batsman and that's something Lee might bring. If he's able to bowl full and swing the ball, one way or another, he is one of the toughest in the world for a new batsman to face.

However, it might also be necessary to consider the old sight screen issue at Edgbaston, one which can make a tall bowler more difficult to face.

If Harmison,Stuart Clark and Bret Lee is playing in the 3rd test it's gonna be another classic.

Really considering bringing Bell back in? Meh, your team. :p

I'd have Harmy in for Onions, and leave Broad and Bopara in the side as they are. At most, drop Bopara for Shah. Dropping Broad leaves the lower order too frail, and he's bowled well to lefties. He might not trouble Ponting and Clarke, but he does the job against North and Hussey.

Bearing in mind that England have taken 25
The really interesting thing for me there is that Johnson has outbowled Siddle.

For me it's Broad's average against just FOUR wickets yet some people seem to be deeming him undroppable because he bowled quite well 2nd innings.

And ffs give Onions a run in the side. If any changes, Bopara and Broad are the two who should be making way first.

Onions will be dropped for Harmison at Edgbaston even though Broad should be making way. I know our selectors too well.

Listening to the way Ponting was speaking.. It doesn't sound like they want to change their team too much. I have a horrible feeling that the Australian team is going to be unchanged.

The only two possible changes there can be knowing the selectors are Watson in for Hauritz and Clark/Lee in for Siddle.

I think they will drop Onions for Harmison, simply because you cannot drop Broad without having a long vulnerable tail.

If you want 5 bowlers, that is. I never believe in changing a winning team, if possible.
