Well, as I have said before because of the nature our (Englands) international summer and winter. Our games with India et el, finish very soon before the Twenty20 World Cup starts. It would therefore be more sensible to give the Test team the time to rest, and play a bunch of county pro's who have excelled in the county Twenty20's. Then our chances of winning are greatly increases and the usual players do not suffer from fatigue before the winter tour.
2 Birds, One stone.
Exactly. I mean I don't know what the standard of Twenty20 is like in India, but I'd suggest that sending specialists would be the best eventuality for all of the participating sides.
Pakistan vs India should be a good game. Battle of the World Cup minnows!
I'd laugh if they were both eliminated in the group stages again! Aha, or isn't it possible?
I'll watch it, I'd still prefer to watch a ODI or a Test Match though.
India and Pakistan should both go through to round 2 unless we have a really huge upset of the Scotts beating either of the 2.
I don`t know why you`d be laughing anyway ? A true cricket fan will be hoping for the best sides to reach the business end of the event, so as to avoid dead games and flagging interests like inthe 50Fifty world cup.
India and Pakistan will bring the crowds into the stadia, IMO.
Which is the greater issue. Consistent bounce doesn't equal high scores if you can't get the ball off the square. The speed off the pitch and over the field is what creates large totals. The field in particular is underrated because you don't have to attack every single ball; if one ball an over gets weird bounce, the batsman can still quite conventionally score 5-20 runs in the over while playing defensively once. What is the difference, though, is that on a heavy outfield, the ball just can't make it to the fence often enough. On a smooth and perfectly trimmed field, shots race away so fast that what would otherwise be a single to the outfielder, is over the line before he can dive.Plus, the pitches aren't slow and low as you would expect in Asia
I don't think Clarke would be useless, but I agree, he wouldn't be the best.Australias preliminary 30 man squad has been announced.
George Bailey, Nathan Bracken, Luke Butterworth, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Dan Cullen, Brendan Drew, Adam Gilchrist, Brad Haddin, Shane Harwood, Matthew Hayden, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brad Hodge, Brad Hogg, James Hopes, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, Phil Jaques, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Andrew McDonald, Ashley Noffke, Marcus North, Ricky Ponting, Luke Ronchi, Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, Shane Watson, Cameron White.
It will be cut down to 15 in mid-july.
I think the squad should be
Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Symonds
M. Hussey
White
Watson
Hogg
Lee (if fit)
Bracken
Tait (if fit)
Back Ups
Hodge
Voges
Harwood
Hilfenhaus
I don't have Clarke in my squad because I don't believe he is/will be a good twenty20 player. He is generally a pusher and doesn't hit big power shots like a Symonds, or a Hayden, therefore I think we'd be better off with proven big hitters and 20/20 batsmen in Hodge, Voges and White
