Australia tour of India (Feb '17/Mar '17)

Wow! So basically the opinion that he could have played a bit quicker is bull shit because you feel so mate? We have argued before, agreed often but I don't remember saying that what you opine for is BS! I think the wicket was flat enough to kick on in the second session. This is just my opinion. Saha was playing the same game and he could strike it around 50-55 while Pujara was striking at 30-35. A lead of 150 means that we might have to bat again. 200 psychologically would have been tough on the Aussies. Mind you, we both could be wrong. I still feel the Aussies will snag a draw out of it.

Personally, India's win in my opinion hinges massively on Ashwin because I'm confident Jadeja will do his bit. If Ashwin can bowl with the same energy, passion and positive mindset that he did in Bengaluru, Australia might as well not turn up tomorrow, but if not then I see a close draw.

It was not targeted at you. It was my opinion that talk about him being slow is BS because his innings was of supreme quality that pulled India back into the game (after Australia posted 450) and then gave them a huge upper hand. Yes India did not convert that into a victory, but I wouldn't blame Pujara for it. It just did not happen on that wicket.

Have there been any news/predictions on how the pitch will play out? Green wicket as one would usually expect in Dharamsala or a dry one like what we've seen in this series?

No matter how much you try, you can't change overheads. Dharamshala will deck around. I am quite confident about Oz chances this test.

Grapes are always sour, for you Mr. Former Southpaw opener who is downright bitter about many things and is the champion of negativity.:rolleyes

Back to the Dharmashala test - I am not sure a track with bounce and pace will put India at a disadvantage. India have the seamers to take advantage of such a track. Remember we won a test at Lord's on a seamer friendly track recently when we toured England (the game where Ishant won the test for India?). If we can beat England on a seamer friendly track at Lord's in their own backyard, why can't we do it against Australia back in our home in Dharmashala?

Personally I would continue with the 7-4 combo and take a very hard decision of dropping Jadeja for Dharmashala (if Kohli plays) and pick an extra seamer in his place. If Kohli misses out, it would be different where we go for a fifth bowler and hope Ashwin and Jadeja add valuable runs. A 7-4 combo is ideal in Dharmashala where there will be enough purchase for wickets but if Kohli misses out, the experience of Jadeja should be retained and an extra bowler brought in, thereby making Jadeja or Ashwin more of a batting allrounder.

My XI (if Kohli plays):

M Vijay
K Rahul
C Pujara
V Kohli
A Rahane
K Nair
W Saha
R Ashwin
B Kumar
U Yadav
I Sharma

My XI (if Kohli is out):

W Saha
R Jadeja

Perhaps the most absurd post I've seen. You're saying if Kohli plays then we need an extra batsman? If Kohli doesn't play then you play a bowler? IMO, it makes no sense. I think you can forget about Jadeja being dropped even though you have a right to an opinion. If India must drop a spinner, it has to be Ashwin, not Jadeja.

Not a fan of 7-4, particularly in the past few years when wickets have been batsmen-friendly. Imagine if one of the 4 bowlers breaks down on day 1 leaving the team a bowler short for the rest of the game. We're more likely to see a tail-ender chip in with 20-30 runs than see a full-time batsman chip in with wickets. 6-5 (ideally 6-1-4 where the '1' is an all-rounder) provides more balance to the team, especially when a team like India has two batsmen capable of handling more responsibility in Ashwin and Jadeja.

If Kohli isn't 100% fit (which seems to be the case), he shouldn't play. He is under pressure of losing the trophy and going through a lean patch as well. An injured Kohli might turn out to be disastrous. What if he aggravates it and can't take part post Day 1? India will then be playing with 10 players, 1 batsman short.

The momentum is already with Australia and they must be loving every bit of what has been happening in the last 48 hours. Irrespective of whether Kohli plays or not, I expect Smith to go the kill instead of playing for a draw.

Odds are stacked against the home team so if they manage to pull this off, it will be sweeter than the 2nd Test win. But at the moment it's all Australia.

IPL can not be more important than this firey series. Champions Trophy is a concern though. I would like to see Virat playing the final test with pain killer injections on to shoulder. He is already doing that I guess. Take example from Imran Khan, He played the entire World Cup '92 with the shoulder injury. This series is no shorter than a WC at the moment. Virat should play.

Even if Kohli is not 100% fit, he should play. Let him take break from IPL ( Believe me, I am a supporter of RCB and it's hard to say that). Even though he hasn't contributed with bat in this series, him being on the ground is such a moral boost. But if the extent of injury is very high then let him not play this test. We want him to be fully fit for Champions trophy.

And what if he breaks down in the middle of the 2nd or 3rd session of Day 1 or Day 2? Wouldn't that be a bigger blow to the Indian team? A player/batsman short for the rest of the match will be a huge disadvantage, just as is the case when a frontline bowler limps back to the pavilion while bowling (remember Zaheer Khan during the England tour?)

I agree that having him onboard will help India psychologically but the cons outweigh the pros here.

PS:

India captain Virat Kohli has said he will play the fourth and deciding Test against Australia in Dharamsala only if 100% fit
