Australia's Tour Of India - 2008

Agreed Syl.

If Harbhajan isn't fit for the next test who would India look to play? I heard about Piyush Chawala (sp?) and a left-arm spinner, whose name I forgot. Who would you guys think would play?

Murali Kartik? Pragyan Ojha?

One more thing , India need to prepare pitches with something for the bowlers. These pitches give nothing to the bowlers and teams keep making these huge scores. Its really not a great advertisment for test cricket, test cricket should be a battle between bat and ball. This Aus-Ind series was supposed to be huge but people are losing interest because of these boring high scoring draws.

Lot of experts and fans agree that 05 Ashes was one of the best battles ever. Ball dominating the bat had a fair bit to do with it IMO. Watching class batsmen trying to negate top quality swing/seam bowlers is one of the great things about cricket. Its much better than batsmen making 300 runs per day everyday. They have 2 very good pace bowlers as well, if the pitches have something for them India will win more matches.

It will be very disappointing if this series ended 1-0 after all the hype. With Twenty20 taking over test cricket might find it hard to survive in places like India if this trend with pitches continues.....

I agree with you on that. The pitches have been very very disappointing to say the least. Its not just this series where it has been the case but even in the previous couple of series in India. The Indian pitches look tired and have nothing in it even for the spinners.Spinners like bounce in the track as well like we saw at Mohali. These slow turners will not produce results with such top quality batting sides in action.

With 2 well matched outfits fighting it out, a sporting wicket can do wonders to the quality of cricket being played as we saw during the 2005 Ashes and the 2001 Border Gavaskar Series or for that matter the last India Australia series in Australia.

Regarding the lack of crowds, we had good crowds for the Delhi and Bangalore games although it may not have looked substantial due to the capacity of both the grounds which is around 45-50,000.Both matches saw average crowds of 15,000 everyday which would have filled most English venues completely.Mohali has never been a traditional test math venue and that begs me to ask the question as to why we do not restrict our test matches to the traditional venues only ! Why not use the rotation policy for venues in ODI cricket only.
Chennai,Mumbai,Eden Gardens,Delhi and Bangalore should be the only venues where we play test cricket with at the most Ahmedabad being an additional venue. We would not see Australia hosting high profile tests at Darwin or Cairns, would we !Even if they hosted a match at Darwin,Cairns or even Hobart, you would not expect big crowds !Test cricket at traditional venues would still attract sell-out crowds like we saw at Chennai against SA this year where we had a packed house for what was a dead last day of the test match.

i dont know how ponting can say we did not force a win or a result on the last day of the third test. thats just a not so happy captain.

I heard on TV that :
Doni has requested BCCI,that Kumble should be there at the toss for the 4th test match between Ind and Aus,also if India wins the series/match,Kumble should lift the trophy. This is a really good gesture, and probably BCCI has also permitted his request,Kumble has served well for India for last 18 years.

I think we might play an additional fast bowler in Munaf Patel, with Sehwag and Mishra sharing the spin bowling responsibility, with Tendulkar also chipping in. But I expect Harbhajan to be fit for Nagpur.

Then why didnt Kumble come out for the toss at Mohali?

I think Kumble should lift the trophy (if India win the series). But Dhoni should go out to the toss with Ponting in Nagpur. He is not too bad with the coin.

You probably heard that on 'India TV'

Is Kumble allowed to toss if he's not in the playing XI? I didn't think so :S.

Nah,he wont be allowed. He would only be allowed if the oppostion captain agrees to it.

If the report is true, it only means that Kumble will be present at the toss. He will not be the one calling the toss.

I'd drop them both, they're both useless. Get Noffke and Casson in tbh.

Casson yes, wouldn't have Noffke as a specialist batsmen. If we are going to replace Watson it has to be with Dave Hussey or North but neither are here so only Marsh comes into contention.

Ponting is indicating all 3 off our reserve bowlers will come into consideration although Clark would be the only paceman under pressure atm and I can't see them dropping him.

Yeah, and I wouldnt even want that. They shouldnt be too sentimental about all this. Did we have previous star players have this happen to them? Why only for Kumble?

He can lift the trophy because he has been the series captain (Dhoni was stand-in at Mohali). ALL THIS IF WE WIN THE SERIES!

That's true, but if Kumble hadn't been injured he would have been playing this match as his final one for sure, so that could be one excuse for it.
