Australia's Tour Of India - 2008

Oh well at least the match will be somewhat interesting now...I mean with Gambhir he would have piled on another 200 runs or so...Killing the concept of competition ;)

You aren't giving enough credit to Vijay and you are hyping Gambhir a bit too much I think.

Lol. Yeah I know that was a bit of friendly banter.

However I think Badri is almost certain to replace Gambhir, I mean I know they have called up another great batsmn but what would be the point of having in the aquad if someone else came into the squad and played instead of him...?

Is going to be intersting who we pick.....But not as interesting as the elction results tonight...:D

Sounds like Clark could be dropped as we look for a more attacking bowling line up. Hmmm, I know Clark didn't look dangerous but he will hold an end up. And we are actually thinking of playing 2 spinners! White and Krejza with Lee and Johnson that could be a disaster on the cards especially if Lee is having his off day.

By the sounds of the pitch which is slow and low Siddle could be handy if he bowls like he does in FC. Ponting has hinted at Bollinger being in contention because of how Johnson has gone.

M. Vijay anyone had heard his name before ?

He has been in great form against the New Zealand A team, and he has just scored a huge double hundred vs Railways (the match is now going on). he was also the leading scorer in the recent Challenger trophy.

After some thinking (I initially thought it was regional bias), I dont see too much of regionalism in this selection. I mean had they selected a player who has not been in great form, it could have been the case. But this guy is in roaring form. Since Tamil Nadu players have always received a very raw deal in international cricket, this selection at this time might look like a regional bias. But it isnt. Also we have 4-5 selectors who have a vote and only in case of a tie, the chief selector (Srikanth) has a say (just read this somewhere!). So, Vijay seems to be a selection based on form.

I am now in doubt. Both Badri and Vijay are debutants. Vijay has the advantage of being a specialist opener. Who should they pick?

Gambhir could be man of the series,India should not play defensive here, because Aus will definately come hard on India,if India plays positively,Aus will be in pressure to win match.

I am predicting Aus to win the toss at Nagpur, and that could give them a huge fillip. The Indian fielding and bowling should be working out hard now on containing the Aussie batsmen because if the first batting team puts up a big total, the other team plays catch up most of the time and its big pressure.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Krejza play. He is the specialist spinner so we should give him a go. I would be dissapointed if Clark doesn't play. He builds pressure and holds up an end like you said. Siddle would probably get the nod over Bollinger because Siddle has already played a Test and did fairly well.

We need to take wickets, so I say we drop White for Krejza and Watson for Siddle. Will leave our batting lineup weakened but if Hayden, Katich, Ponting, Hussey and Clarke (plus Haddin) can't score 400 by themselves on a batting pitch, people should be dropped. Plus Krejza, Johnson and Lee are all capable batsmen, and Clark is an alright slogger.

Our bowling will be at its strongest that way, and we might actually take 20 wickets. We will need to on a pitch like this, especially if India win the toss.

So my team, as risky as it is:
1. Hayden
2. Katich
3. Ponting (c)
4. Hussey
5. Clarke
6. Haddin (wk)
7. Lee
8. Krejza
9. Johnson
10. Clark
11. Siddle

Go for it!

Australia have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Quite simply, they need 20 wickets to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Hence, they need to pick a team that can take 20 wickets. If they pick extra batsmen to lengthen the tail, it's their own folly if those batsmen cannot pick up the wickets required. All India need to do is bat well enough to hang on for the draw--so the onus is really on Australia to pick a side that can bowl India out twice.
