Australia's Tour Of India - 2008

Congrats to Hussey on yet another Test match 50. Probably his worst shot in the inns but he and we will take those runs.

Not surprised how far over to the offside Katich is shuffling now. He doesn't wanna go for a wide one outside off anymore so he'll be trying to flick one off his legs.

Nice fifty for Hussey and nice century for Katich. Both got their landmarks with a four.

Very good knock by Katich he played the Hayden inns we needed. That should get him back to his normal play well the way he played last night I hope. If these two can knock the runs off by tea then we could really up the ante through White, Haddin and Watson.

Can't be too bad. Mendis' averages seem to have stayed the same in international cricket as they are in international cricket. Murali's First Class record is 19, his Test average is 21. Murali's List A record is 22, his ODi record is 23. He's also played 100 extra domestic games in both forms, so the Sri Lankan domestic competition must be able to be used as some sort of gague for quality. Jayawardene's FC average is 52, compared with his Test Average of 51, so it can be used as a gague for talent.

Don't try and take that paragraph out of context though, I'm not claiming that the Sri Lankan Domestic leagues are as good as Australia's, as they're not, but they're not awful, as proven by the comparison between certain player's FC figures and their Test careers. Murali and Jayawardene being key examples. Mendis is therefore a FAR better bowler than Krejza. 1 innings taking 8 wickets on a spinning pitch in India doesn't make him similar to Mendis. Mendis will take wickets on any pitch, because he has variation. All the top spinners in world cricket have variation, or a style that suits any wicket. Murali has variation, Warne had variation, Kumble just had a style that suited every type of condition, Vettori has subtle variation and changes in pace. Krejza will not end his career with figures anywhere near the players mentioned above. His FC stats indicate this anyway.
You're also ignoring the most important factor - Mendis has played every single one of his matches in both FC, OD, test and ODI in the subcontinent except for 2 ODIs in the West Indies (definitely the third or fourth weakest of the test nations), one of which he bowled very well and the other in which he failed to take a wicket. That's not nearly enough cricket outside the spinning subcontinent to call him a far better bowler. Not to mention the fact that Mendis has not faced Australia, England or South Africa (particularly away). His efforts against India have been brought into perspective with Krejza's.

Krejza has spent his whole career in Australia bowling on much less spin friendly pitches, against much better opposition, and with much better competition to get a game.

How can anyone say that one of these two rookies, who have less than 20 international games between them, is far better than the other? You simply can not - end of story.

Very defensive cricket from India. They are just trying to slow us down and hope for a mistake from the batsmen to get a wicket. We were going at nearly 4 an over yday , so maybe they are scared that we might win this ey ? Even when we are not so dominant , Indians still fear us.

I wonder what Zaheer has to say about this ? considering hes the one doing it this time. But then again Zaheer and Ishant haven't got a wicket for about 100 overs now (From the Mohali test). So hes not gonna go around saying how great he is anytime soon.

Ps - well done Katman. We need a big double ton from you!!!

Ironic strategies employed by India, with the defensive bowling and slow over rates.

Obviously, if it does work and they get a couple of snicks, then the game goes on, but if it doesn't work, it's not just wasting time, it's to the detriment of Test cricket.

I'm sorry, but it's about time someone went out, this match was getting too boring, like 5 runs from about 15 overs...

Nevermind, Clarke's in, 0 from 50 balls here we come!
