Australia's Tour Of India - 2008

Perfect! Jason Gillespie and Kasprowicz were also reminding the Aussies of the tactics they employed in 2004 to choke the runs of the Indian batsmen and lure them into making mistakes. Thats what Dhoni did!

That clearly shouldn't matter. If we were to apply the same standards for both teams, how could we feign outrage against the Indian players?

Thank goodness for Harbhajan. He saved this match for us, assuming we go on to win or draw it.

Yeah I rememeber us chasing around 280 against saffers on the last day. Punter and Haydos made all the runs there. If we can go in to the last session with some wickets in hand and with some chance of winning the test , things will get interesting. Maybe aim for 200 in the first 2 sessions (without taking much risks) and go all out attack in the 3rd session with wickets in hand.

But yeah I have a feeling that the 8-1 fields will make another apperance tomorrow. Aussies better have a plan to counter this.

Ps - Ganguly got a first ball duck in his last innings. LOL. I feel sorry for him......actually I dont. he had it coming to him all along. jk

I agree with you. Australia might and should go for the target even when they are 8 or 9 wickets down. Because if they draw, they lose the trophy. If they win, they take back the trophy which would be a great achievement after having had to play catch up with India for most of the series (except Bangalore). So Australia should go for it, and it also presents India with a chance to win the match. Exciting stuff!

The way Ganguly (Dada) looked up at the skies after he saw Krejza catch it was very painful to his fan. It was like him saying to God "Why do you do this to me?". Or maybe he was saying to Bradman up in the skies "Look sir, I have equalled your achievement"

Nah, he beat Sir Bradman, he got a golden one.

Day 5 - Result

India Win - Australia going for runs and losing wickets is most likely.:upray

Draw - don't know australia puts down the foot on breaks, they have done some bizarre things on this trip is possible:p

India loss - Miracles do happen in cricket as they say but that is most unlikely:noway

Tomorrow a result will come for sure.

Australia Win OR India Win.

The reason We will not go for draw becasue loosing 1-0 or 2-0 are same. Our target is to level this one and hence no chance for draw. Tomorrow God knows what will happen :upray Cmon boys, create a historic event and level this series :)

The Indian draw is very much an option. Hell we might even seen a 9-0 field. It's going to be up to the Aussie batters to make the running with the Indians having the option to go for the win or draw.

Maybe a few cross batted strokes if Dhoni enforces that 9-0 field? ;):p

I think 250 would be a par 4th innings score on this wicket. Given Aussies are chasing 380, then it's going to need a great start by the top 4. If they can manage to be 2(or less!) for 150-200 then suddenly they are well within range.

It's probably the run rate that might kill them. If at any stage the required run rate gets above about 4.5 or 5 I think they are cooked. But...they do have players who can push the pace though. Katich is our only plodder and even he has had a stint in the ODI team for a while. It would have to all come together amazingly well though for an Aussie win.

And looking at some Aussie newspapers this morning, Ponting is getting rightfully roasted. It was disgraceful selfishness, and the fact that Tim Nielsen is supporting him is even more disgraceful. He's cost us a real chance at levelling the series, just to protect himself. Take out those 100 pretty easy runs and the game is even. The papers rightfully point out it's not his first infringement here. Hussey bowled earlier in the series for the same reason. Clarke/Symonds bowled in tandem in Perth last summer for the same reason. Ponting just doesn't get it and I wouldn't be against standing him down until he's proven that he can push the over rate along without using Michael Clarke.

And it's not just the wickets/cheap runs it cost though. We could have batted for longer last night, but the light was bad so Ponting has also cost us batting time by moving so slowly in the field. Imagine if we were 50 at stumps, suddenly the target's not so far away.

On an over rate note though, obviously the fines/suspensions don't really work. Apparently you need to be 6 or more overs behind to get in real trouble and that includes the extra half hour. So you can bowl 85 overs in 6.5 hours and the ICC don't care enough to suspend you, even though you should be bowling 90 in 6. I say if a team doesn't bowl at least 30 overs in a session without good reason - every session - they should be penalised. I'm sick of the constant bowler/captain conferences and tardy field movements. Please do something ICC...

Would have to be the most precise strokes to get it through the gap on the offside. Also the other concern will be the spinners bowling from around the wickets. I think this is where John Buchanan theory that batters should be able to bat both sides would help.

aussie1st added 2 Minutes and 32 Seconds later...

That's probably one of the ICC most stupidest laws. To allow 5 overs to be lost each day is short changing the crowds that go to watch the match and possibly the opposition who needs those overs to win matches. Funny thing the main culprit in Ponting now needs those overs.

If India did enforce a 9-0 or 8-2 field and if there is a Left-Right combination, Then it could also cost Dhoni dearly with the over rate...

LOL guys, what are you talking about, 9-0 field, these things only exist in Cricket 07!

dhoni won't be using those fields this time unless aussies get a very good start.
dhoni will definitely go for a win tomorrow.

Who gives a toss about the over rate and possible consequences, if we can clinch the series!
