West Indian Tour of India, 2013: Sachin's 200th Test Appearance

Kirk Edwards has higher List A and test average than Powell so there is an option of bringing him into the line-up to open the batting. Ramdin's batting is horrible. Is there any wicket-keeper in WI domestic circuit who can bat? I mean Ramdin might be good with gloves but his batting is just not good enough especially if you want to have Sammy in that line-up
Ideally, WI should try both Powell and Edwards simultaneously. If you can recall, Powell made a strong mark with 3 test hundreds in no time. WI can afford to give him few more tests before writing him off. Kraigg Brathwaite needs to be in the setup as well. Unfortunately Shane Dowrich and Lindon James are probably our best gloveman at the moment from young crop of players but they can't bat. The ones who can bat are nothing more than stop-gap keepers (Simmons, Charles and Darren Bravo included) and it will be a risk to have them keep in test match for long hours. Baugh has done better as a batsman in the domestic circuit than Ramdin but I guess now that he is 31, selectors have decided not to look back. The only 'wicketkeeper batsman' I see suitable for the role is Chadwick Walton. The lad had a decent outing last season with bat (409 runs in 12 innings of 6 matches; 1x100, 2x50; HS: 101*; Avg: 37.18) and gloves (12 dismissals [11 catches, 1 stumping] off 11 innings of 6 matches). He was the 5th highest run scorer of the season.

They could look at bringing in Lendl Simmons or Johnson Charles, both powerful hitters of the ball and can open as well. We have seen them open in ODIS and they could be tried out for the longer version as well.

I believe that would be abysmal. Test matches require far more skill and stamina than a T20 or even a 50 over game and I feel that is not the cup of tea for the players you have mentioned. They can keep okay but they are far from being fit to don the gloves of a test match keeper. At the most, I feel WI can go back to Baugh or try and fast track someone like Walton or Dowrich and hope the move doesn't fall flat like the case was with Devon Thomas in ODIs.

Nah Baugh is even worst than Ramdin, he has enough chances & his batting is way below international standard.

The best option right now is clearly Walton as you mentioned & Thomas has some batting ability, they need to keep him @ the HPC to try and enhance it.

The real keeper with the exciting batting ability for windies is Trinidad's Nicholas Pooran who excited a few in the CPL. He would be perfect for all forms of the game if his obvious natural talent can be translated to consistent performances domestically soon.

Ranji Trophy 2013-14, Group B, 2nd round, 2nd day Report : Badrinath 248 powers Tamil Nadu | Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo

Another solid knock from Badrinath. I hope selectors still have him in the radar for tests.

the problem with badrinath is that he brings nothing new to the table and would be the oldest member of the team now tendulkar is out.

he's hardly any more experienced outside india than rahane or mukund who have toured with the A team, he's not miles ahead of them in terms of his numbers domestically. players like him could have done themselves huge favours going to play in the county championship over a summer or some such experience, but he hasn't, I don't see what sets him apart from his peers except that he's older.

You nailed it perfectly. Going by numbers and form, then Baba aparajith is the strongest contender. He and Samson are just in teens and have been tremendous in last few games.

I understand what you are trying to say but what I am saying is he has so much experience of playing 4-day game that he has much better temperament than likes of Rahane and Mukund. He can understand the game better than those two because of his experience and that is what we will need after Sachin. Yes, I know he has the same experience as Rahane and Mukund when it comes to playing outside subcontinent but as I said before, his experience of playing longer format, his temperament and technique is better than some of our young players right now. His 4 years in international cricket will also allow some of the younger players such as Samson and Baba to play few more ranji seasons and gain more experience in longer format.

Right but Pooran has had just a handful of games under his belt thus far. He should be given time and experience before being thrown into the demanding international cricket.

The ticketing site kyazoonga.com has now crashed. Test match tickets will never get attention ever again.

Sir will be playing his last test/match
Can anyone imagine how no. 4 will be replaced Virat or Rohit?

----------

1st test in SA
squad replacements
Jadeja-Sir
U Yadav/V Aaron/Ishant Sharmaz in place of Ojha.

I feel kinda sorry for tendulkar really, usually players get to bow out and end their careers without much scrutiny. Tendulkar, as ever, will be walking out under immense pressure to something one last time for this crowd, in a sport that was cruel enough to say goodbye to bradman with a duck I don't see see that happening.

Ideally I'd like Kohli to take the no.3 spot and pujara to go to no.4, Kohli is in the ponting mould of batsmen and it would be great to see india have such an attacking batsman coming in one down. Unlikely they'll shift pujara from a spot he's made his own though.
